This time we get to hear a few words from the Groom talking about how they found me and then sharing what went down on the engagement picture experience… on another day we’ll get a different perspective from the bride and see what pictures she talks about.

I’m really happy to be doing Robbie and Jesse’s wedding in November they care so much about capturing the character of their personalities and their wedding. And it’s a big plus that they both have developed and dynamic personalities.

Jarvie Engagment Pictures Experience

When I first saw Scott Jarvie’s work, it was of the Sego Festival that was held in Provo. The pictures were of my brother’s band Eyes Lips Eyes. As an aspiring photographer, I really liked his style and had kept the name in my mind. The photos that caught my eyes were these:

The colors and lighting in these were amazing and really brought the energy that the band had during their performance and that’s something I strive to do when I take concert pictures or pictures in general.

Right before we were engaged I found his photography page, ‘Jarvie digital’ on facebook and became a fan. After me and Jesse were engaged, our thought was to get a great photographer that was different and took amazing pictures. She being an artist and me loving photography, we both wanted something special. We were ok skimping on other things, but our engagement and wedding pictures we wanted someone that we could trust with the memories of our wedding; someone that could do much more than me taking the pictures myself. While discussing the options, I mentioned that I really like this one photographer that I had recently become a fan of on facebook and that I really liked the Sego pictures that he took a while back. We met him and discussed our options and what we were looking for with him and felt really comfortable. He was open to the ideas that we had and let us know if they were feasible. We were really excited about the possibilities. We wanted somewhere that not many people had been to and that was out of the way a bit. We (me and Jesse) both wanted to do something that was personalized. Me enjoying photography, I wanted to include cameras in my pictures. I brought older cameras to match the older, run down areas we were in.

Jesse really liked the movie “The Red Ballon” and wanted to include that in the pictures.

When we set out for our destination, we had some places in mind that we thought would be nice. While we were going out there however, several different places caught our eye on the way. So we quickly pulled over, set up everything and shot there. As we continued to our destination, we kept pulling over again and again. We just couldn’t pass up the places we were seeing that would be great for pictures.

In these pictures, we came up to this really straight road that seemed to go on forever. I’d driven on this road before and thought you could take some cool pictures here. So I mentioned it to Scott and we pulled over. I like how it tells a story that we are going on the long road together and the future awaits us.

For our invitations we wanted a good silhouette picture and both thought they turned out great. Jesse has always loved taking our shadow silhouettes together and these were done perfectly.

One thing we didn’t want was a bunch of pictures of us kissing, in fact, we liked pictures where our faces were covered up. We thought they looked different than what you usually see and a little artsy.

As we drove through Eureka, Jesse remembered when she had taken pictures there at another time and how unique the old mining town was. So we pulled over and found some nice locations. We both love old rundown things and how they look so this was a great place.

Although we don’t like when couples do really goofy poses, I had mentioned a music video in which the lead singer was floating in the air the whole time and how I liked that. I had also seen a painting where people were flying people like kites and thought it sounded pretty similar. So we gave it try and they turned out pretty cool.

The first location we were at we wanted to pose pretty formal and have a serious expression on our face. We had seen similar poses with other couples and really enjoyed how different it looked. The colors in this picture are amazing.

As both semi photo shy people, we wanted our pictures to be fun and that exactly what we had….fun. We thought the photo shoot didn’t last long enough, we wanted to go to other places, but it got dark and so we couldn’t. That’s why I enjoy these pictures so much because we were so involved with the locations and the things that were in them instead of having the photographer tell you how to pose, where to go, etc.

We are looking forward to our wedding and the memories that will be captured there. We love our engagement pictures and are excited for what’s to come.

……Scott Jarvie for President.
